Cowichan Seniors Community Fund

PROJECTS FOR 2011- 2012

Cowichan Seniors Community Foundation has selected the following programs to sponsor for 2011–2012. A total of $20,000.00 has been committed to the operation of these programs in the Cowichan Valley.

  1. Stroke Recovery Association Outreach Program

This program conducts weekly meetings in Duncan. Funding support will enable the organization to increase awareness of this program and to conduct outreach activities in Cowichan.
  2. Boost Your Brain Power

A community-based program with a Fall and Spring session for those wishing to increase their brain agility and to participate in an educational program in a group setting led by a trained facilitator. Fall session will start in September 2011. Spring session will start in March 2012.
  3. Cowichan Family Caregiver’s Society “Keeping In Touch” Program

Support for this new incentive by the Cowichan Family Caregivers Society will be funded as a Phase One program. Funding will allow for training and activation of volunteers to conduct a one-to-one emotional support for isolated caregiving families in the Cowichan area.
  4. Volunteer Driving Program

A pilot project designed to run through volunteer coordination and implementation helping seniors access medical and other appointments in the Cowichan Valley. This program will start in September 2011.
  5. * Big Brothers Big Sisters — Seniors In-School Mentoring Program

This is a new program for the Cowichan region intended to match a senior with a child who would benefit from the mentoring and socialization offered in such a "Big Buddy-Little Buddy" relationship.

    * This sponsorship is in partnership with Island Savings Credit Union. The Cowichan Seniors Community Foundation is grateful to Island Savings Credit Union for engaging in such a partnership, made possible by the ISCU employee GIFT program locally.
